While traveling around the world with a backpack, she scaled down in more ways than one. Still indulging her love for giving new life to the old and discarded, she started creating jewellery. When she settled down in the Bay Area her passion for the medium grew, turning her apartment into a work studio.
Sally has now exhibited in many galleries and high end boutiques around the Bay Area, including but not limited to ACCI, Cicada, Ethnic Art, Lillith & Monkey on Chestnut. She has also participated in many Fine Art and Craft Festivals in the United States and the United Kingdom.
She was awarded second place in Fine Craft at Art In The Park, Boulder City in 2006. Sally is the current designer for a limited edition collection for Yulin, a designer clothing line based in Belguim, showing in the Netherlands, Paris, Ireland and London.
Because of the very nature of her pieces, they cross cultural boundaries and have become collectible around the world, residing in Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom and of course all across the United States of America.
Description of Work:
Sally's pieces are a reflection of herself, grown from many different cultures, rich in colour & texture. The results are varied and eclectic. No prejudice is used in her selection of materials, from vintage to contemporary. In Sally's eyes, previously treasured and loved items deserve more than merely being discarded. She allows the energy of each piece to guide her intuitively rather than imposing upon it a predetermined result, thus the process is quite organic & varied.Sally utilizes many techniques such as metal fabrication, beading, assembly & wire work. This results in each piece having its own unique flavour whether it be in sophisticated combinations, timeless simplicity through to the softer more romantic styles, with the common theme being that each piece tells its own story.
Artist's Statement:
One of my greatest joys in my creative process is the look of delight upon people's faces as they recognize the different elements within each piece. This allows them to see the old things they would usually throw away in an entirely new light, triggering memories of times gone by. This initiates a rich dialogue enhancing the connection between client, artist and the individual pieces they choose.
